Kitchen Appliance Terminology: Wok Ring, Plinth Legs and Other Important Words to Know, Part 2

July 20, 2021 by EuroChef

We understand how stressful a kitchen renovation or new build can be, and we are here to help you! Our first blog in this series covered dual fuel ranges, flame failure safety devices, BTUs and more. There is a great deal more industry lingo in the appliance world, so we’re bringing you part two to help guide you through appliance selection and terminology queries.

Wok Ring

If you love cooking Asian-inspired dishes, you will want to have a cast iron wok ring accessory in your collection. A wok ring holds the round-bottomed pan steady and in its place while you’re stir-frying. It also regulates heat by concentrating it at the bottom of the wok.

Cylinder Legs, Plinth Legs, Wrap-Arounds and Toe Kicks – What’s the Difference?

In appliance design, furniture-style legs may be placed in each corner at the base of your appliance to give it a “floating” look. Appliance legs are normally in a sleek, cylinder style or a more decorative, squared plinth design.

The alternative to furniture-style legs is a toe kick (aka a wrap-around) that covers the gap between the bottom of the range and the floor for a solid base style. If you prefer uniformity and want to minimize cleaning under the range, then a toe kick/wrap-around would be your ideal choice. Or, if you would rather keep the space open to create an “airy” and decorative look in your kitchen, then cylinder or plinth legs would be the right option for you. Verona Appliances offers all three options, allowing a homeowner to design a range that best meets their kitchen space wants or needs.

Simmer Plate

One great aspect of Verona’s line of gas cooktops and ranges are the high-power burners. The burner heads are positioned close to the flame for rapid boiling or a high-heat sear.

While the BTU power can certainly be placed on a simmer level for more delicate recipes such as melting chocolate or slow simmered dishes, you may want a simmer plate for an even lower heat. Verona’s heavy-duty cast-iron simmer plate will cut BTU power down by 50% while also continuing to evenly disperse heat.

LP Kit

An LP Kit is necessary to convert a gas-powered cooking appliance from a natural gas connection to a liquid propane (LP) connection. The conversion should be performed by a qualified appliance installer or plumber, as a poorly completed conversion may prevent the appliance from functioning properly or could cause a dangerous gas leak.

Kitchen Appliance Terminology: Dual Fuel, Induction and Other Important Words to Know, Part 1

June 22, 2021 by EuroChef

Are you in the market for new kitchen appliances? We understand how stressful a kitchen renovation or new build can be. We are here for you! Verona Appliances has stock available for purchase and we’re more than happy to help guide you through appliance selection and terminology troubles.

What is a dual fuel range?

Verona Prestige 36″ Dual Fuel Double Oven

A dual fuel range gives you the best of both worlds: electric heat for the oven and gas heat on the cooktop. It’s the ideal appliance if your household enjoys baking (electric ovens provide the perfect dry, even heat needed for baking) and searing, sautéing or charring with a live flame.

Flame Failure Safety Device

A flame failure safety device shuts off the gas flow of your range or cooktop in the event the flame is extinguished. This safety device is standard equipment on all Verona ranges.

BTU

BTU, or British Thermal Unit, measures heat energy from a flame and quantifies cooking power. A BTU is equal to the energy created by burning one match. If you look at our 24” gas range, for example, the smallest burner at the front left burns at 3,400 BTU, or the energy of 3,400 lit matches. The largest burner, the front right, burns at 12,000 BTU or the energy of 12,000 lit matches. The higher the BTUs, the higher the heat you can achieve with that burner and, often, the bigger the flame.

Backguard

Verona backguards sit at the back of cooktop surface on ranges and helps with oven ventilation. The heat from the oven is pushed through the openings in the backguard, rather than through the oven door. Backguards do serve other purposes as well, including shielding your kitchen wall from intense heat, steam, sprays, and splatters that result from range-top cooking. When paired with a backsplash, cleanup is that much easier. The backguard you need will depend on the fuel type, size, range model and backsplash material in your kitchen, so you’ll want to talk to your dealer about which option is best for you.

Is it an oven, stove or range?

These words tend to be used interchangeably when referring to your cooking appliance, but there are subtle differences between them.

  • Oven: In today’s kitchen, an oven is often a built-in appliance, also referred to as a wall oven. It does not include external features like burners, and instead, it is just the oven box.
  • Stove: A stove also features an enclosed area, but it’s most often used for warmth, like a wood burning stove. Cooking on this kind of appliance is possible, but it’s not the main purpose.
  • Range: This is the all-in-one appliance that combines an oven and a cooktop. A range is what you’ll most commonly see in U.S. households today.

Induction vs. Electric

Verona 36″ Designer Induction Range in Slate Gray

Induction and electric cooktops may look similar, but they perform very differently.

Electric cooktops use a centralized heat source, often coils, that are usually found underneath a glass or ceramic cooktop surface. As the coil gets hot, it transfers the heat to the surface, which is eventually transferred to the pot or pan. Induction cooktops also use coils, but more specifically, magnetic coils that generate heat a with a pot or pan on top of the surface. This energy will heat the pot or pan directly and provide a quicker and more efficient heat than traditional electric.

Three Essential Tips to Complete a Kitchen Remodel – Without the Wait

June 2, 2021 by EuroChef

Verona Appliances Smartly Bought Inventory – in Anticipation of the Remodeling Demand Surge

Verona 30” Gas Wall Oven

“Everything is on backorder! How can I complete my kitchen renovation?” is probably a question many homeowners and designers are asking these days. Labor and material shortages, paired with an itch to renovate the most used space during lockdown — the kitchen — are coming to a head.

Home renovation spending is up 11% this year, but factories worldwide struggle to keep up with demand due to pandemic-related supply issues. As a result of supply chain disruptions, there are significant shortages in raw materials like stainless steel, plastic, microchips, and even shipping containers and many retailers cannot keep products in stock. A six- to eight-month backorder for product is now the norm. And, for the first time in about 30 years, appliance pricing is about to go up significantly.

Verona Appliances, a luxury manufacturer of Italian-made kitchen appliances, anticipated this shortage early in the pandemic and is happy to say they have products available for purchase. “We secured as much stock as possible for our U.S. warehouse and placed preemptive orders with factories to quickly get products in the hands of our preferred dealers and homeowners,” states Melissa Haber, Vice President of EuroChef USA, the exclusive importer of the Verona brand. “We are in an enviable position. Unfortunately, we are still running into some longer lead times on certain core models, but we are still ahead of the industry when it comes to turn-around time,” continues Haber.

Haber shares these tips for consumers who cannot wait weeks — or even months — to complete their projects.

1. Be flexible with the size and style of product.

Consumers who are flexible have a better shot of getting products in a quick timeframe. “We recently worked with a client that was desperate for a sold-out 30” gas range by subbing in a 30” gas cooktop and wall oven combination that fits in the same space, served the same purpose, and was in stock with no lead time,” says Haber. “Alternatively, we questioned the ability to be flexible on the type of fuel connection. If an all-gas range isn’t in stock, see if there is the capability to run a 220V connection for an all-electric or a dual fuel range– and vice versa. Induction cooking is also a great alternative to traditional electric if availability is better.”

Another consideration is to choose a neutral color like black or white, rather than stainless steel, which will pair just as well with existing appliances. This small trade-off means consumers can get cooking in their new kitchen that much sooner. “We’ve even experienced customers shaving a few inches off their planned countertop and cabinetry to fit a larger size cooktop or range just to have the product in time,” says Haber.

The bottom line, if you are flexible and even a little creative, you can get your hands on product without any sacrifice.

2. Call the manufacturer directly to check inventory and lead times.

“At Verona, we’ll take calls directly from consumers and help them locate product at their favorite e-tailer or local dealer,” says Haber. “We know what our inventory is across the country and when it will arrive from overseas. It’s important to communicate directly with vendors and partners who have the most current information and are willing to assist you in accurately planning your project lead times.”

3. Be flexible in your brand choice.

Don’t be tied to matching brands because that’s when consumers wind up waiting eight months for appliances because a matching fridge hasn’t arrived. Consider mixing brands – most stainless steel or even colored appliances will coordinate with each other, regardless of the manufacturer.

“Don’t insist on the brand your neighbor bought that doesn’t have product in stock – instead consider other brands that offer quality, performance, and availability,” says Haber. “Verona has been around for more than 20 years in the U.S. and more than 60 years in Europe. Customers willing to be flexible will probably end up paying less while still getting a feature-rich and equally reliable appliance at the end of the day. And, one that’s in stock when and where you need it,” concludes Haber.

Patience and communication are essential during these unusual times. If consumers are willing to be flexible and take the time to work with an appliance specialist, then it will be possible to make their dream kitchen a reality and still meet their pandemic project deadlines.

Verona Appliances Celebrates 20 Years in the U.S.

March 23, 2021 by EuroChef

Since 1958 our family-owned, Italian-made line of ranges, ovens and cooktops has been a preferred appliance brand featured in upscale kitchens throughout Europe. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Verona in the U.S. market.

From 2001 to today, our brand offers a wide range of cooking appliances suitable for any size kitchen on both sides of the Atlantic. To honor this milestone, we want to take you on a journey through the evolution of our product line innovations – highlighting what makes Verona the chef-inspired appliance maker for those who want the look and functionality of a professional appliance for their home.

2001

The one that started it all… Verona’s 12” gas cooktop, which featured one large and one small sealed burner with electronic ignition launched in our debut year. Finish offerings included Black, White, Bisque and Stainless Steel. The compact 12” model was part of a full cooktop collection that was available in up to a 36” size.

2002

We introduced a full collection of freestanding ranges, including our popular Verona Professional 36” and 48” dual fuel and 24” gas ranges. The pro-restaurant-inspired look and functional features set the stage for Verona as a true cooking appliance that is attainable for at-home chefs.

2005

Verona built-in ovens were launched in 2005 and included the ever-popular 24” gas model, which remains a Verona exclusive today. The individual ovens could be installed as one unit or used with a stacking kit to create a seamless, stunning stainless-steel double oven display.

2010

In 2010 we introduced the exclusive 36” double oven ranges, available in both dual fuel or all gas models. These ovens are a true multitasker, as they allow home chefs to bake dinner and dessert at the same time.

2011

Verona debuted a variety of color options for the range collection. In addition to stainless steel, we added matte black, burgundy, antique white and white to our color palette.

2012

This was a big year for Verona Appliances with the launch of a standard American-sized 30” Pro Style Deluxe Range. The new Collection was engineered specifically for the US market and was packed with professional quality features such as a convection gas oven, four burner cooktop, a digital clock and timer, heavy-duty cast iron grates and more.

Also launched in this year was the VeronaPro line, which included upgraded 36” and 30” ranges, a 30” gas wall oven and 36” gas cooktop, all with powerful brass German-made burners and many aesthetic upgrades.

2015

In 2015, Verona debuted the 36” Classic range that combined the very best of industrial design and cooking performance. The range was a recipient of Design Journal Magazine’s Best of 2015 Products award. With the launch of the trend-setting Classic look, the Verona logo also received an update transforming into today’s iconic square design.

Also introduced in this year was the 36” fully-electric N’ Series Range, which still stands as an iconic model for the Verona brand. At the time of its release, the N’ Series Range was the only fully electric range on the market.

2016

The Chefs Pak was released in 2016 to the delight of many home cooks. The accessory package included a heavy-duty stainless-steel griddle, 3” x 5” beveled spatula, digital meat probe and more.

2017

In 2017 we launched Verona’s exclusive 36” All-Electric Ranges. The range won a Good Design Award in the same year, and the collection of All-Electric Ranges was an Interior Design Best of Year Honoree.

2018

The Designer and Prestige series was added to our extensive line of 36” freestanding ranges in 2018. The ranges featured both performance and aesthetic upgrades such as brass burners, rounded handles, continuous cast iron grates, a modern knob design and clean, beveled doors.

2019

Verona added two new colors and colored knobs to our line for the Designer series, plus an online Designer Range Builder Tool that allows interior designers and homeowners to customize their very own Designer Series range. The “Designer Range Builder” provides users the option to preview any combination of fuel type, knob color and base color for their personalized appliance.

2020

Verona added non-cooking appliances to their line to offer a complete kitchen suite including new refrigerator and dishwasher for the first time. In addition to this exciting development, Verona also expanded its popular Designer series with Dual Fuel and Induction 36” ranges and ventilation options for wall-mounted, chimney hoods and built-in inserts.

  • The Designer series Dual Fuel and Induction 36” ranges, where consumers can create their ideal range in up to six colors, three knob designs and four fuel options;
  • The Designer Ventilation Hood with three style options, including a wall-mounted chimney hood, streamlined low profile hood and built-in hood insert;
  • And the Verona Kitchen Suite, where consumers can choose from a wide selection of powerful ventilation and cooking products, Energy Star-rated 36” counter-depth French Door Refrigerator, and 24” stainless-steel dishwasher.
